MSF Orienteering 2011 |
|
How could it be more pleasurable to partake in an exciting game simultaneously to contribute to the charity?
On 3 April 2011, a lovely sunny day, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) held its 10th Orienteering Competition in Peng Chau, in which there were about 2,500 participants. We formed a team for the first time in this meaningful event. Our team members devoted their utmost effort to keep trekking, hiking, running, sweating and laughing to locate the numerous checkpoints. The cheering members also played hard to give support and take pictures.
Out of 50 teams in our group, the champion and first runner-up were both from the fireman brigade. Despite our team was not on the top list, we had yet achieved a remarkable result.
Special thankfulness extends to our Honorary Presidents and alumni for their generous donation. With such, our association was acknowledged the gratitude by MSF with an outstanding fundraising award.

Our respectful alumni Paul Li and his project team, had done a tremendous job in developing a warehouse management system for use by third party logistics service provider. This seminar shared with audience the experience learnt in the project and demonstrate the usage of the system. The project was supported from The Sponsorship Programme by The Hong Kong Logistics Development Council and has drawn about 100 attendances from logistics, IT and IGDS alumni. The last part of sharing session is touching when all family members of Paul were asked to go on stage to gave their comments on working in the project. The side product of this project is to let the family members of Paul communicate with each other from a different perspective and worked whole-heartedly for the same goal.

Dr. Ng shared his experience on differences in leadership and managership. In order to change a manager into a leader, it is necessary to go back to basics - change thinking and mind set. CASL visit |
|
We are heading to the Hangar of China Aircraft Services Ltd. The first impression was their Security. We have to present our ID card one by one for cross checking at the entrance. Neither photo nor video taking in the plant was allowed. The escort team was led by the General Manager of Base Maintenance Department, Mr. Trevor William Crow. After a briefing at the meeting room, we were guided to visit their maintenance workshop which was arranged in cellular units with contemporary testing equipment. Besides carry out maintenance for air craft, the workshop also served as training ground for their own technicians.
When we passed by the canteen, we were astounded by a must-see sea view ---- the sight could reach Macau!
We take the opportunity to thank Mr. Crow and his crew for this wonderful tour.

Our group of 20 participants was greeted by Raymond, the maintenance enginner, at the lobby of EMSD Headquarters Building. We went up to exhibtion area on 7th floor to see the model of the buidling with explanations given by Raymond on the various energy efficiency measures. Going through the sunpipe corridor, we went up to the rooftop viewing gallery to see the 2nd largest (350kW) photovoltaic panels installed in Hong Kong. To get away from the heat on rooftop, we went down to the exhibition gallery on ground floor, where some can play with the interactive exhibits while some raise more technical questions to Raymond. The visit ended with viewing the 5 large ice tanks and taking of group photo on the outdoor area near the main entrance.
