IGDS Alumni and MILESAA co-organized a boat trip to Sai Kung on 7 July 2012 (Saturday). Our group of 32 participants including families and friends of our alumni gathered at Sai Kung Pier in the morning. It was a sunny day and we headed off to Pak Lap Wan where water was clear and cool. Youngsters jumped into the water without waiting and swam towards the beach. While we were relaxing at the beach, the boat owner’s wife was preparing sea food dishes for our lunch. Boiled shrimp, chili crab, crispy squid, fried clam, chicken wing etc. were cleared away quickly. After lunch, we moved to Tai She Wan where some went for exciting banana boat and wakeboard while others ventured to the rocky shore to see corals. Everyone was so tired on the way back and it was a good time for a nap.

Group of alumni gathering for a casual dinner to hear 3 stories of our young entrepreneurs. WM Dai shared with participants his experience in setting up a design & manufacturing company for electric motors and precision parts. Lai Wing Cheong shared his story of providing a platform of e-learning for primary and secondary schools. Samantha told us her venture in setting up a home applicance manufacturing company from scratch and then closed it down after 11 years and shifted to making homemade cookies and food consultancy service. What an amazing change!

Our Alumni Association together with The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Enginnering - Hong Kong Branch with Hong Kong Licensed Plumbers Association co-organized a seminar on 'How to improve Business/Project Performance', The speaker Mr. KH FOK introduced the concept of partnering, risk management and value management to the audience.

This project sharing session was attended by 40 students. Gavin Luk gave an overview approach of how to treat the IGDS Project and the flow. Jeffrey Zhou shared his experience on problems faced by full time students and possible solutions. Lastly Walter Fung gave his opinions from the access or’s point of view what he will be looking for in the project dissertation and presentation.

The lecture theatre is packed with 80 participants, all are eager to learn the various routes to get a professional engineering qualification. The presentations of SOE, HKIE and IET were informative and the audience raised questions on specfic fields like aircraft maintenance, telecommunication. The new discipline of Logistics and Transportation in HKIE is open for founding member application. Further promotion will be launched to related associations in this area. Interested alumni who would like to pursue a route for profesional qualification can approach Mr. Chan Cho-Yee for assistance.

On the 31st of March 2012, the IGDS members, bringing along their families gathered at Sheung Shui Train Station and took taxi to Mai Po Nature Reserve. The weather was very nice on that day. With the help of tour guide of the Mai Po Nature Reserve, making our 3 hrs walk, not tiring, but very plesant indeed. We saw the fish ponds, we went to the bird hide, and walked through the lotus ponds, etc. We breathed the tranquil and beauty of the Mai Po Nature Reserve. Love this place – it is the oasis of Hong Kong. Ending the trip, we were so lucky to be received by a local family, who made us some traditional food….haha. so yummy and so much fun. About 35 students attended the PMA & Project Session. Gavin Luk gave some guidelines on doing PMA. Kenneth Wong and Chan Cho Yee shared their experience in doing the Project. Students were then divided into small groups to discuss their questions with alumni present at the session including Jane Wong, Paul Li and Jeffrey Zhou.

Thanks to all of you, we had another tremendous success of Annual Dinner which was held on 26 November 2011 at Scout Association of Hong Kong Commissioners’ Club. The theme of this year was Eco-life and low-carbon living. About 110 alumni, guests, and students attended this marvelous event. In addition, we were extremely delighted that there were almost 40 alumni and students showed up in our AGM held before the dinner. The atmosphere that night was truly memorable with a touching sharing session between 4 senior and younger MCs who were 10 years apart in attending the IGDS modules. Minda Lai led all participants in a dancing performance. Lucky draw was as always the highlight. We had over 30 grand prizes of which almost 20 cash prizes from $500 to $2000. Our senior alumnus Paul Li had luckily got the 1st grand prize upon attending our annual dinner for 10 years, which was an iPad2, where great applause aroused. Everyone enjoyed so much the precious moment in a high spirit.
